Beach Vacation

By Mister Curie

We are down at the beach, having a great family vacation.  The beach just happens to be LGBT-friendly, so there are lots of cute same-sex couples walking around, and tons of eye candy.

I've been having fun playing around with a makeover for the beach.  I started wearing a variety of tank tops, bought a beach necklace, and got a tribal henna tattoo on my arm.  I don't look very Mormon anymore.

Madame Curie suspiciously asked if I was trying to look like Brad Rowe.  He is the co-star in the gay beach movie, Shelter.  He significantly added to the eye-candy of the movie and is one of my celebrity crushes.  I think he had an arm tattoo in the movie, but I don't recall him wearing a beach necklace or tank tops regularly in the movie.  So the answer is no, but I can't say I'd be disappointed if I looked a little more like him.

Celebrity Crush: Zachary Quinto

By Mister Curie

I would be remiss if I mentioned Star Trek without mentioning Zachary Quinto.  Gay Star Trek fans were so lucky to have two hotties playing opposite each other.

Friday Movie: Shelter

By Mister Curie

This week's movie is the AfterElton.com #2 and MoHo #6 movie, Shelter, also known as the gay surfer film, which provides lots of opportunities for eye-candy. From IMDb:
Forced to give up his dreams of art school, Zach spends his days working a dead-end job and helping his needy sister care for her son. In his free time he surfs, draws and hangs out with his best friend, Gabe, who lives on the wealthy side of town. When Gabe's older brother, Shaun, returns home, he is drawn to Zach's selflessness and talent. Zach falls in love with Shaun while struggling to reconcile his own desires with the needs of his family.
This film was much more than the sum of it's eye-candy. It is a very touching and poignant story. The film's portrayal of the homosexual relationship as uplifting and good (despite the sister's homophobia) and the none-too-subtle contrast with the realistically imperfect heterosexual exploits of the best friend and the sister, make this a movie that should improve understanding among heterosexuals. Perhaps I was just having an emotional day when I saw this, but this film resonated with me in lots of ways. I particularly related to the main character's struggle with accepting his homosexuality and with his desire to be everything his girlfriend wants and needs. This movie was well worth the wait for the DVD from Netflix. Two thumbs up!

Friday Movie: Were the World Mine

By Mister Curie

High School Musical meets Dead Poets Society meets Rocky Horror Picture show. Ranked #8 on AfterElton.com and #9 among MoHos, this is a very enjoyable show and belies one of my Obvious Gay Traits (OGTs), a love for musicals.

A story about an openly gay high school senior at an all boys' school who is in love with the apparently straight school jock. He is cast as Puck in the Senior play, William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. While practicing for the play, he discovers the secret formula for a love potion and sets out to make the school jock fall in love with him. Things soon get out of hand as he turns the whole town homosexual. The movie takes on the plot of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the conclusion of the high school play and the movie occurring simultaneously. It is a clever gay twist on a timeless story. The music was catchy and the singing amazing. Costuming was directly out of the counter-culture, but endearing nonetheless. Two thumbs up, five stars, etc., etc. Available on Netflix Watch it Now.

Have you seen it? What did you think?
