Were the World Mine

By Madame Curie

My husband has played the soundtrack to this movie so many times that I think I have all the words memorized.

Someone, please recommend him some other "gay" music. Preferably not show-tunes, since he already listens to those nonstop as well.

  1. I recommend to anyone the Kings of Convenience, the Shins, Elliot Smith, Jose Gonzalez, the Arctic Monkeys...oh and the Bird and the Bee also has some nice stuff.

You can check out playlists on youtube for samples. :)

  2. P.S. I think Goldfish Memory probably also has a good soundtrack, but I love bossa nova...

  5. Um After I watched Goldfish memory I watched Hedwig and the Angry Inch and it's soundtrack was great (kind of a showtune kid of rock) Um, not totally gay, but owl city is some great music. PS Have you ween Were the World Mine yet? If not that needs to go to the top of the queue... immediately! Oh that and Shelter.

  6. Thanks for all the suggestions.

BB, we have seen Were the World Mine, something like 800 times now (although Mr. C would probably say 800 times too few). I think he is planning on featuring a review of it next week... he has been doing a theme for each week, and it fits best there.

Hadn't heard of shelter... adding it to the queue. And I had heard of Hedwig, but hadn't seen it. Decent film, then?

  8. OMG, Hedwig! How could I have forgotten?! It's one of my favorite movies of all time, yes, with an excellent soundtrack.

  9. I must recommend a wonderful CD. (My apologies, Mme. C, as it is overtly in the vein of showtunes, but forgivably so). It's called 'Songs from an Unmade Bed.'

There are 18 tracks. The lyrics are written by one man collaborating with a different composer for each track. It follows the journey of a confused gay man through good and bad times as he tries to find love.

  10. My first comment on Mister Curie's series of posts is about music. Go figure. :) Erasure from the 80s and early 90s is pretty fab. "Do you remember, there was a ti-i-i-ime..." Never gets old.

My other recommendation is a particular song that transcends groups and is meaningful to anyone working through personal issues or experiencing difficulty of any kind. It's Annie Lennox's performance of "Many Rivers to Cross" on an American Idol program called Idol Gives Back in 2008. Amazing, moving, unforgettable. You WILL cry.

  11. @Everyone - thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure Madam Curie will be happy to have some alternative musical selections for me to try out. However, we are playing Were the World Mine on Netflix again for the umpteenth time. I can't get enough of it.
